Journeying out of 2021 and into a sparkling New Year

New Year Wine adVINture

Did you know that this Christmas ‘Wine trains’ delivered millions of bottles of imported wine from Europe amid the infamous lorry driver shortage this year? Network Rail ensured extra capacity for the 4.5 million bottles of wine that were delivered to the UK by trains in what may have seemed as magical as the Polar Express.

As we move into 2022 we want to take you on a sparkling journey of our own around Domaine Gilles Gaudron … Fourth generation winemaker Gilles took over the family Domaine in 1993. Comprising of 50 separate, small parcels of vineyards, the estate is planted on limestone-clay soils spread over 27 hectares with closely spaced goblet-pruned vines, the majority of which are older than 30 years of age and are hand harvested. Still aided by his father Sylvain, Gilles produces top quality, traditional Vouvrays with intense pure fruit characters and striking terroir expression. The atmospheric, naturally temperature-regulated cellars date back over 700 years and include 1,000 metres of tuffeau galleries. Fermentation is long and slow with natural yeasts.

Gilles Gaudron makes a delicious Vouvray Brut ‘Blanc de Chenin which is a fantastic sparkling wine with crisp acidity, a complex biscuity character and very fine persistent bubbles. This sparkling wine would make a great alternative to Prosecco or Champagne this NYE. It is 100% Chenin Blanc as well as organic.

Happy New Year Everyone!
