100% Sauvignon Blanc, machine harvested at night. The grapes originate from the vineyard “Pago El Cerrellal” located in Pozaldez. It has one of the highest elevations in the DO Rueda, with stony soil at an altitude of 809m above sea level. Extended time on the lees is used in order to extract the mineral nuances and complexity of the soil. Initially, cold macération is used for six hours before a fermentation lasting 3-4 weeks. The wine is aged on the fine lees for several months before clarification, stabilisation and light filtration prior to bottling.

Tasting note

Pale straw yellow with lime green iridescences, vivid and luminous. The nose is fragrant, very intense, explosive and typical for the Sauvignon Blanc variety. Notes of tropical and exotic fruits (pineapple and paraguaya). Delicate hints of citrus fruits (lime peel and green lemon), as well as soft notes of apricot, finished by a soft and delicate end of boxwood tree. Wide structure and tasty, complex. Long and persistent finish with hints of tropical fruit.

About the producer

One of the eight producers who originally created the DO Rueda back in 1980, the bodega dates as far back as 1946, though the family has been growing vines in the area for five generations. The work of Félix Lorenzo Cachazo continues today with his children Eduardo (sales manager) and Ángela (winemaker). Located in Pozaldez (Valladolid), they own 35 hectares of vineyards, including 9 hectares of pre-phylloxera vines destined for their barrel-fermented Verdejo.

The characteristic soils in the DO Rueda are stony with limestone, allowing good drainage. The significant difference in temperature between day and night (sometimes up to 20°C) means that Rueda benefits from a slower ripening process and a more aromatic expression of the Verdejo grape.

The story of Félix Lorenzo offers an accurate view of what has changed in the area over recent decades: the large oak vats that were historically used to store the wine in underground cellars have almost disappeared in order to make way for modern equipment. As an original producer in the Rueda región, Félix continues to pave the way by producing a vibrant modern expression of the region, whilst steering away from the traditional, oxidative styles of the past.
