Other information

The Unoaked Chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel tanks and left on the lees for 16 weeks to capture the essence of Chardonnay purity.

Tasting note

On release it has a bright straw colour with greenish highlights and an intense aroma that recalls ripe apples, lime and pears with hints of herbs and tropical fruit. Bright and steely dry in flavour, the grapefruit and spice sensations are buoyed by zesty acidity that refreshes the palate through a smooth finish.

About the producer

Since joining Chamonix in 2001, winemaker Thinus Neethling continues to work the magic of this 50ha estate’s wines, following the principal that great wines begin at the vine. With some of the highest altitude vineyards in the Franschhoek Valley planted predominantly on greywacke soils, Thinus favours low yields, traditional viticultural practices and wild ferments to produce these pure and unique expressions of the terroir, which are some of the very best examples from the region.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate (

With an open and expressive nose, the 2018 Unoaked Chardonnay gives way to aromas of fresh green apples with a lemon zest expression. The palate is crisp and refreshing, with pleasing acidity that makes my mouth begin to water. Fresh and clean, the medium-bodied wine ends with a softly mineral finish. I recommend enjoying it with fresh shellfish. ( Anthony Mueller) Points: 89. Issue Date: 31/03/2020
